Founded in 1999, IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is Denmark's youngest university, focused entirely on information technology and digital transformation. It runs full-time bachelor's and master's degrees plus professional and continuing education, all shaped by close ties with industry and the public sector.
That real-world focus shows up in every programme, and it's exactly why ITU trains students to think about IT as more than just code. "At ITU, we view IT as a multidimensional technology," says Lene Rehder, Head of Student Affairs & Programmes. "Our graduates understand that developing the best software requires understanding of its business and societal value, as well as its effect on the people who will use it. This makes them uniquely prepared for the challenges of working in a field in constant evolution.”

Explore ITU’s career-focused IT programmes
BSc in Data Science
This programme trains next-generation analysts with strong technical and analytical skills. You'll extract insights, inform decisions, work in a group, and apply organisational and deep market understanding.

MSc in Software Design
This two-year MSc in Software Design helps you build IT skills without an IT background. You'll work on software design and development projects, handle maintenance work, and pick up the organisational and managerial side of building software.

MSc in Advanced Software Engineering
If you’re aiming to become a specialist developer, DevOps engineer, architect, or decision-maker in the IT industry, then this is the programme for you. You’ll deepen your technical expertise while developing essential management skills for these roles. As the programme follows ITU’s 1+2 model, you’ll study full-time at the university in your first year, followed by part-time study while working a minimum of 25 hours per week in a relevant company in the next two years.

MSc in Data Science
Handling, analysing, presenting, and operationalising data – this two-year MSc in Data Science sharpens all of it. Building on your bachelor's degree, you'll gain a strong mathematical and algorithmic foundation for advanced analytical and technical work.

MSc in Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence
Harness the power of data and AI to solve complex business challenges with this three-year industrial master’s degree. The first year focuses on full-time study with extensive coursework in data analytics, AI, digital transformation, and process innovation. The next two years are hands-on, where you’ll take on the “Managing Business Analytics and Data-Driven Decision Making” module, electives, and thesis at a part-time job.

MSc in Computer Science
Got an IT-related bachelor's degree? This two-year MSc builds on it in a top academic setting. You'll work on real software development and maintenance projects and learn the organisational and managerial side of running a development process.

MSc in Games
You'll shape the future of play with an MSc in Games, from video games and e-sports to user experience design and gamification. You'll build creative, technical, social, and analytical skills while learning how professional game production teams work together.

Industry partnerships that launch careers

At ITU, you'll connect with the business sector to prepare you for your future roles. Many programmes include company projects in the curriculum, giving you the chance to tackle real industry challenges through ITU's project collaboration scheme.
What's more, every March and October, there's IT Match Making, ITU's career fair. This is when companies meet students looking for job opportunities, project collaborations, and, ultimately, full-time positions after graduation.
Your study programme benefits further from ITU's Employers' Panels, which span fields from IT management to Computer Science and Games. These panels advise the Rector and the Head of Programmes on the quality and relevance of your programme. They provide insights into the IT competences and profiles the market will need in the short and long run, directly shaping the curriculum you study.
Follow in the footsteps of entrepreneurs and innovators
At ITU, you'll join an entrepreneurial network that turns knowledge into innovative solutions and startups. Through ITU NextGen, the university's innovation and startup hub, you can develop your idea into a fully pitched venture. Workshops and hackathons sharpen your skills, while the startup incubator gives you mentorship and legal and financial support from service partners as you build your company.
Plus, you'll get to pitch alongside fellow student founders at events like Demo Day, gaining real feedback into your own venture or an innovative role at an established organisation – sometimes, even before you graduate.

Florabelle Ruano Cabarrubias
PhD in Pharmacy
Enrico Lauletta had always wanted to make games, and after years studying computer science, he found what he was looking for at ITU. "The MSc in Games programme felt like the one perfectly tailored for me," he says.
There, group work and Copenhagen's discussion-driven culture taught Lauletta patience and iteration. “Group work really helped in that sense, because I had the opportunity to get to know my colleagues more closely, with all their different approaches to work and studying, different approaches to the subjects, and different approaches to life,” he says.
These are skills that led to the turning of an exam project into an independent studio, winning Lauletta the Best Student Game Award at TAGS 2024. Today, he relies on those same skills daily as a Game Designer at IO Interactive, a Danish video game developer and publisher based in Copenhagen. In 2026, his contributions to the stealth game franchise “Hitman” earned him and his team the 2026 Spilprisen Talent Award, one of the Danish gaming industry's highest honours.
Reflecting on his time at university, Lauletta believes the closest metaphor is a long camping trip with close friends. “You go there breathing fresh air, taking in everything nature has to offer you and that you normally don’t experience in the everyday life, you create bonds, you go through adventures, you discover things about yourself and about your fellow travellers, you go through a transformation, and you come back enriched, anew,” he says.
