Dr. Serene Koudsi’s strong passion for healthcare and community service led her to WesternU. Here, she found the support and early clinical exposure that helped her gain confidence and refine her approach to care.
During vision therapy with a non-verbal paediatric patient on the autism spectrum, Dr. Koudsi found it hard to communicate at first. But by adapting her methods and building trust, she managed to identify significant binocular vision issues affecting the child’s learning. It was an experience that strengthened her commitment to optometry.
Further encouraged by dedicated faculty mentors who guided her through demanding rotations and key career decisions, Dr. Koudsi pursued a residency in ocular disease. “WesternU’s strong clinical foundation and diverse patient exposure prepared me well for residency,” she says.
Today, as a resident at Azul Vision IE, she continues to grow as a compassionate and skilled clinician, dedicated to improving lives through eye care.
