The university is the former home of not one, but two Nobel laureates: Albert Szent-Györgyi (1937) for his discoveries related to vitamin C and biological combustion processes, and Katalin Karikó (2023), for her work on mRNA vaccines against COVID-19. Continuing their legacy today are health studies programmes delivered by the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School, the Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies, the Faculty of Pharmacy,  Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Clinical rotations and research labs feature prominently in most programmes. BSc Physiotherapy students complete extensive field practice hours, while Pharmacy graduates are prepare for careers across industry, hospitals, and research institutions. Medical education is offered in English and German, with the German-language programme available since 1999.
