Ammu Sarath graduated as a nurse in India in 2023 and spent several months working in mental health. What stayed with her was the human connection. They were enduring. The conversations, the trust, the slow, steady progress – these shaped her next steps and pushed her to look deeper into the field.
It’s what brought her to the University of Chester, where she’s now studying for a BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies. Her goal: build stronger clinical skills and prepare to work in healthcare systems around the world.

"The way the course is organised has helped me understand mental health nursing from both an academic and practical perspective, and I appreciate how the teaching encourages critical thinking and personal growth,” Sarath says. “What I enjoy most about the course is the learning experience with engaging lectures, discussions, and the opportunity to reflect on practice in a meaningful way.”
