When 17-year-old Fiamma expressed a desire to study abroad, her parents were already aware of the doors that could potentially open with an International Baccalaureate (IB) education. The opportunity to learn in a safe, semi-rural environment in a peaceful Canadian valley, distinctly different from her home near Venice, Italy, sealed the deal. Fiamma arrived at UNISUS last year, eager to learn.

Despite her evident desire for an international perspective on life, beginning anew was still a little daunting. However, it turns out there was little reason to worry: a welcoming student body and supportive teaching and boarding staff made the adjustment much easier. Friends were made, and Fiamma's dormitory quickly became a second home, enhanced by plenty of stimulating on- and off-campus activities and new experiences. "I immediately felt proud to be a part of this connected community," Fiamma says.

With a cozy residence to return to at the end of every day, Fiamma can comfortably dive into her academic studies. She's exploring math, Spanish, English, literature, and geography — all of which have already helped better define her hopes for the future.

“Once, I was interested in pursuing a career in the sciences, but now I feel like I’m leaning more toward communications, political science, or law,” she says. “I’m sure I will be able to narrow down my options next year when we take on research papers and analysis essays. Anyway, I’m happy to say the IB program at UNISUS is preparing me for my future.”
