BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance

By featuring more dance styles, the programme sets out to achieve several goals. It is taking steps to decolonise dance education by adding styles like Capoeira, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Flying Low. And by doing this, it is giving students a holistic approach to contemporary dance practices and shaping them into more well-rounded, confident artists ready to enter the professional landscape of dance and wider arts. This programme has earned the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023 Progression indicator 79.1.

Highlights of this educator’s 20 years of experience include choreography and movement direction for the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, Sochi 2014 Winter Paralympic Ceremony, Street Dance 3D and Trainspotting T2.

“When I was at the age of going into university, there weren't any higher education institutions that were inclusive of street dancing and hip-hop,” says lecturer Vicky “Skytilz” Mantey. “So, it is important to me to be a part of seeing that change.”
