Even after completing an advanced degree in metallurgical engineering and securing full-time employment, Hervé Bone still felt limited. “I refused to accept that all I was good for was a lab,” he said. “That didn’t sit well with my underlying ambitions.” 

Born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bone longed to lead. Determined to understand better what it meant to improve processes and manage people, he decided to join SUU’s MBA programme — specifically because it was taught by experts who believe in the importance of real-world application.

Under their supervision, Bone is deep-diving into topics he has never explored yet was always curious about.

These lessons not only helped Bone solidify his life’s calling, but they have also given him confidence in his ability to thrive in a range of sectors. For now, he plans on gaining exposure in the mining industry once he graduates. “I want to apply my new skills in production before eventually progressing to manage an entire operation — I know the knowledge I’ve developed in accounting and finance will help me accomplish this,” he explains.

The connections he’s made over the last couple of years will come in handy as well. Every month, SUU hosts luncheons for employers and students to get to know each other. Through events like these and regular career fairs, Bone developed an extensive network he aims to leverage once he begins working in the US. “I would love to stick around for as long as possible,” he says. “However, I do plan on bringing my new knowledge and skills back home one day.”
