Adel Kassem’s interest in Computer Science started with a programming course in high school. His curiosity continued to snowball from there which led him to pursue his passion as a Computer Science major at NKU’s School of Computing and Analytics.

“I have realised the versatility of this major and how you can apply it to any field of study, career path or even just creating solutions to personal problems,” says Kassem.

He actively took part in a research assistantship, a teaching assistantship as well as becoming a STEM ambassador and a member of the Cyber Defense team. Kassem also snapped the opportunity to do not one, but two internships. The first was as a Java Developer at Promevo LLC and the second as a Software Engineering Intern at Great American Insurance Group.

“Both internships allowed me to apply the theories I had learned in the classroom to the real world,” he explains. These opportunities are among the strategic partnerships NKU has with the local community, making it a home to launching students’ careers.

Today, Kassem is working for Google as a software engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area. He credits this achievement to NKU’s curriculum that goes beyond the classroom. Like Kassem, many NKU students join internships, hackathons, open source projects or personal projects that further enrich their student experience while building a portfolio of invaluable hands-on experiences in their relevant fields.
