Winnie Luísa Teófilo Chongo was working at a law firm back home, focusing on corporate governance and commercial law, when she saw how IP and competition law were underrepresented in Mozambique. “Although my university offered IP as an optional course, it was rarely available due to the scarcity of professors willing to teach it and a lack of interested students. Additionally, despite the approval of our Competition Law in 2013, the Competition Authority only became fully functional in 2021,” she says. “These circumstances and the undeniable relevance of these fields motivated me to pursue MIPLC’s LLM.”

Courses in International IP Law and European and US Competition Law further ignited her passion for innovation and its role in economic growth. She’s also been inspired by the engaging teaching methods and diverse perspectives of educators like Professor Dev Gangjee and Professor Peter Georg Picht.

Looking ahead, Chongo plans to establish a career in competition law, leveraging the skills and experiences gained at MIPLC to make a meaningful impact in her field.

“I also love how the MIPLC prepares us for post-graduation success by bringing in experienced, engaging, and knowledgeable lecturers,” she shares.
