From experienced manager to industry leader

The best hospitality leaders shape industries and set the standard everyone else chases. They walk into a room and instantly command respect, turning struggling operations into award-winning experiences. And they build teams that carry that excellence forward.

The Asian Institute of Hospitality & Management’s (AIHM) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in International Hospitality Management makes professionals like that. This 12-month programme is open only to experienced managers who are ready to grow into leadership roles. Formats are flexible and designed to let you advance your hospitality career without leaving your job.

A postgraduate diploma designed for the real world of hospitality

If you're an experienced manager ready to take your career to the next level, this postgraduate diploma was built for you. Depending on your schedule, you can choose from full-time, part-time, or online pathways – whichever fits your life best.

Not from hospitality? That's not necessarily a barrier. The programme considers high-performing managers from other industries on a case-by-case basis, and if you're accepted, you'll start with a two-to-three-week Hospitality Immersion Programme to get you up to speed before the course begins.

From there, the curriculum, designed in consultation with industry leaders, covers Leadership and Change Management, Revenue Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Services Marketing, and International Events Management.

To bring that learning to life, your first semester includes a business field trip with direct access to senior executives and behind-the-scenes operations. You'll also sit in on panel discussions with industry leaders actively shaping the field.

Building on that foundation, you move on to your professional project. You can complete a six-month internship at a luxury hotel of your choice or run a research project inside your current company – one that delivers real, measurable value for your employer.

"The PGD offers working professionals a structured, academically rigorous route to a postgraduate qualification without stepping away from the industry. Through AIHM's academic association with Les Roches, graduates can also top up their diploma with six additional months of study to earn a Master of Arts in Hospitality Management, without ever leaving the workforce for an extended period, which is something very few programmes in Asia offer.

Plus, the programme is continuously reviewed and updated. When we see shifts in the industry – whether that's the acceleration of digital guest journeys or the integration of AI into hotel operations – those topics enter the curriculum. "

"We also lean on our industry network to identify what operators are investing in and what competencies they're struggling to recruit for. That feedback loop keeps the programme relevant. The goal is to prepare students to lead in an industry that is changing fast, not to teach them to manage the industry as it was five years ago."

A day in the life of an AIHM student

Emy starts her day bright and early. Waking up at 7:30 a.m. gives her enough time to get ready, plan her schedule, and ease into the day. Once she arrives at school, her first stop is the coffee station before class. She usually gets there 30 to 50 minutes early to set up her laptop and check the day's agenda.

Lunch break allows Emy to step outside and enjoy a meal with friends. When she’s not in class, she likes to take breaks outside the building to refresh her mind.

"Occasionally, I use the lobby to meet up with classmates and prepare for presentations, but for the most part, we stay in our classroom throughout the day," she says.

Classes typically finish around 3:00 PM, though sometimes they run a little later, until 4:00 p.m. If a group project or presentation is coming up, Emy and her classmates stay back to work on it. Otherwise, she heads home to complete her assignments before engaging in extracurricular activities.

Physical activity is a big part of Emy’s routine. Almost every day, she runs in the park or attends a Muay Thai session at 7:00 p.m.

Wednesdays at AIHM are dedicated to enrichment activities, where students can join clubs like the Arts Club, Kitchen Club, Badminton Club, or Mixology Club. It’s a great way to explore new interests and connect with students from different years.

“I joined the Badminton Club and Mixology Club," she says. "It’s a fun way to unwind while being part of the school community."

Emy prefers to finish all her work before her workout so that when she returns home around 9:00 p.m. or 9:30 p.m., she can relax and unwind. A little downtime helps her recharge before another busy day begins.

An enriching hospitality education awaits at Asian Institute of Hospitality & Management.
