Norraine Barrios found her path in aged care through an unexpected turn. Initially aiming for nursing, she landed in the Bachelor of Health Science program at Western, Sydney City and discovered a passion for health service management.
While theoretical knowledge was valuable, Barrios thrived on practical experience. During her studies, she landed a part-time administrative role at her current workplace, a residential aged care home. This experience, combined with a later stint as a client service officer in finance, provided her with invaluable hands-on learning.
Despite the challenges of balancing studies and work, Barrios excelled. She credits the institution's online resources and supportive professors with helping her navigate her academic journey. The program, particularly courses on finance and management, equipped her with the skills to excel in her current role as an office manager.

“The theoretical and foundational aspects of my program gave me the understanding of what I'm doing now,” Barrios says. “Currently, what I'm doing is operational work. Without the foundation of good communication, understanding of administration, and management skills, I wouldn't be prepared for what I have now.”
