John Mallia, a Sydney native, found his academic home at Western, Sydney City. Growing up surrounded by discussions with his father and grandfather, both electrical engineers, sparked his own fascination with the field. This early exposure made the institution's electrical engineering program a great fit.
Among his classes, "Power and Machines" stood out for its focus on practical applications of up-to-date technology.
"I’ve been a part of many hands-on projects. For example, during my first year of study here, I had a big project to design a solar panel system that would supply enough power for a house in a rural town,” Mallia says. “I really enjoyed this project because I had to research numerous applications of solar panels/renewable energy and have to make it work logically and practically."
Beyond technical know-how, Western, Sydney City's program has equipped Mallia with essential soft skills.
