MSBA-HTM, Apprentice at Sandpiper Hospitality

Rukayat Adeniran describes her time at Virginia Tech as both transformative and empowering. As an international student from Ghana, arriving in a new country came with uncertainty. Yet the MSBA-HTM program quickly became a home away from home. Faculty and administrators created a supportive environment where students felt seen, valued, and encouraged to step beyond their comfort zones.

Her journey was rigorous and rewarding. The program built a strong foundation in hospitality business strategy, analytics, and leadership, while integrating real-world applications at every stage. Hands-on projects, case studies, and collaboration with industry leaders brought concepts to life, challenging students to solve complex problems alongside peers and faculty mentors.

Beyond technical skills, Adeniran developed confidence and resilience. Tackling a new environment while mastering advanced coursework prepared her for leadership in the global hospitality and tourism industry. She learned to view challenges as opportunities, a mindset shaped by the program’s focus on personal growth.
