Grant Bommer, now a Program Finance Lead at national security and health company Leidos, was drawn to the MSBA-BA program for its strong focus on programming and analytics. Combined with his undergraduate degree, it gave him the confidence and preparation to step into the workforce as a proud Hokie.
As he progressed through the program, the curriculum quickly became one of his favourite parts. Each class sparked his curiosity and gave him the chance to dive into topics he truly cared about, something he hadn’t experienced before. “The program allowed me to explore areas of personal interest and helped me learn in a way that made me want to go above and beyond,” he says.
That passion for learning carried into the capstone project, which Bommer describes as a defining moment. It brought together his prior knowledge, classroom learning, and insights gained outside the program. Working on a real business challenge for a company allowed him to apply every skill he had developed, blending technical expertise with problem-solving.
By the end of the program, Bommer felt not just ready but fully equipped for his career. “Coming in, I thought I was ready, but now, I know I am. I possess many more skills, including much more technical knowledge and deeper experience with tools I thought I already knew, including Excel, Python, Power BI, or Tableau,” he says. “I’ve gained so much through this program.”
