Medieval Studies (MA)

One of the best opportunities I’ve had during my time as a Medievalist at Lampeter has been the opportunity to attend the annual staff-student colloquium at Gregynog Hall, where a number of thoroughly interesting papers were given by leading academics linked to a number of Welsh universities. Additionally, within my final year, I had the opportunity to present my own paper at the conference, a daunting but exciting prospect that has provided me with valuable experience in the world of academia and useful connections with leading academics.

In addition to employability skills provided through lectures and assessments, such as team working and presentation skills, the university has also provided ample opportunities to help prepare students for the world of work in the form of experience. This ranges from working in the front-facing ambassador role for the university through to attending, and sometimes presenting at, conferences or volunteering on archaeological excavations. In today’s world, where employers seem to value experience over largely anything else, these opportunities are extremely helpful and help students bulk out their CVs.

My overall experience with UWTSD Lampeter has been a very positive one. It may be cliché, but I would not be the person I am today without the university’s help and guidance.
