Master’s Degree Programme in Materials Engineering: Health Technology Materials

Edna Arlyne De Jesus Cabrera may have been born in Mexico, but she’s lived all over the world since. There were several exchange programmes in Canada and the UK before she set off to pursue a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering in Seoul, South Korea. Committed to achieving a master’s degree in Biomaterials, she searched through universities in Europe. “The programme offered by UTU got my attention immediately and made me feel part of the community before even knowing if I was accepted,” she says. Finland, after all, is a leader in digital health

Edna wanted to specialise in 3D printing and artificial organ — and only UTU offered this and everything she was looking for. “This programme has a nice perspective into developing biomaterials and expanding the applications of current materials within the healthcare industry,” she says.

The university organises multiple events, like job fairs, which Edna has found helpful. They’ve helped her build her resume and improve her career prospects after graduation. Getting constant offers in Job Teaser has helped boost her morale and confidence in her own ability too.

“The career counselling was by far one of the best decisions I have taken here in Finland. It helped me vent out my fears and worries about my future in Finland, my career, and other topics. The person in charge of the session was super helpful and understanding. I was asked questions about my previous work experiences and how I felt about pursuing certain career paths in the future.” she says.
