BSc Sustainable Energy
The University of Otago prides itself on offering the BSc Sustainable Energy the only energy-focused undergraduate degree in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s a unique programme with a 20-year history that aims to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to reduce energy-related greenhouse gas emissions.
This degree is ideal for high school graduates with a knack for physics and mathematics. Most importantly, you should be interested in applications of physics to solving real problems. Many of our own students are also interested in the environment or passionate about climate change and renewable energy.
All students start with a flexible first year, focusing on subjects like Physics and Mathematics; handy should they wish to pivot to other science degrees within the university. For the second year, delve into energy-centric courses like:
- Renewable Energy Technologies
- Engineering Thermodynamics
- Environmental Physics
At the end of the programme, you are set to gain a deep understanding of a range of renewable and non-renewable energy resources and develop the key skills required for energy analysis in industrial and commercial settings.
