Imagine cruising along the coastline, studying the behaviour of whales and dolphins, or diving in the ocean to monitor the health of coral reefs. On shore, you’re developing sustainable solutions for fisheries, or helping repopulate marine ecosystems, and reduce destructive human activities on our planet’s most diverse environments.

Such dynamic careers are typical of the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science graduates. Hands-on degrees, such as the School’s Master of Professional Science (MPS) programmes, in a small, close-knit community make this possible. Fourteen tracks are available for you to explore and find your niche.

Full and part-time options are available. The popular 12- to 18-month programme ensures that you’ll graduate with the training and real-world experience necessary to prepare for your future career. With two semesters of coursework and a three-to-six-month internship, you’ll graduate with the knowledge and experience to advance in your field of choice.

Dynamic careers with real-world impact

A powerhouse of excellence

Despite its small size, the school is a major player in the University of Miami’s ambition to be HERE (Hemispheric, Excellent, Relevant, Exemplary). It’s home to state-of-the-art research facilities, ranging from a research vessel, a fleet of small boats, a world-class Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing, the Surge Structure Atmosphere Interaction facility (SUSTAIN), and a one-of-a-kind Helicopter Observation Platform

The setting makes it all the better. Miami and its highly urbanised marine environments are an incredible place to learn about conservation biology, strategy, and management and be a part of community-led action. Many outstanding programmes and centres are available to complement your learning journey, such as the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, Southeast Fisheries Science Centre, and the National Hurricane Centre

At these spaces, you can connect with people and organisations fighting to protect marine ecosystems and partake in internships and research opportunities that make a difference. It’s one of the best ways to get a feel of careers in business, government, or non-profit organisations, where demand for experts is growing.
