Engineering AI

The Engineering AI programme is the school’s newest offering, designed to provide a rigorous technical education for engineers who can develop and implement intelligent systems. It offers an in-depth curriculum that equips you with both foundational AI principles and advanced technical skills in areas such as machine learning, data analytics, embedded systems, and more.

Additional electives like Generative AI, Industrial AI, Robotic Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Ethical and Sustainable AI, and more are available for those who wish to specialise further.

Cybersecurity

The programme prepares you to advance your career or transition into this field increasingly in demand by government, industry and consumers. The curriculum develops a deep understanding of how engineering applications intersect with computer science principles across industry and government bodies, a result of a collaboration with the departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science, as well as the Maryland Cybersecurity Center.

Stressing "more-than-tech," interdisciplinary solutions, the centre is where you get to work with peers and experts from other departments to establish broad-based cybersecurity initiatives.

Cloud Engineering

An ideal choice for those who want to advance their career or join this rapidly growing field. You’ll take advanced courses in cost efficiency, resource utilisation, industry ecosystem, role of cloud in the enterprise, and driving business value using cloud technology.

You’ll also explore three cloud models: Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) -- all used by businesses, IT professionals, and cloud providers today.

Software

This programme prepares you to develop and maintain affordable, reliable, and efficient software systems that align with customer needs. You’ll explore three technical areas within this programme: cybersecurity, computer engineering, and systems engineering. All are tailored to prepare you to face and solve real-time, global issues.

You’ll be guided by world-class researchers and practitioners who are familiar with the latest Software Engineering principles, working on large projects at NASA, DARPA, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin.

Robotics

This advanced programme offers an interdisciplinary curriculum in collaboration with the Maryland Robotics Center, which is home to over 40 faculty members and 18 cutting-edge labs. You’ll explore modules like autonomous systems, machine learning, and human-robot interaction, with the flexibility to specialise in fields such as AI, aerial robotics, and medical robotics.

As one of the fastest-growing fields within technology and engineering, this programme sets you up for roles in aerospace, manufacturing, defence, and even healthcare.

I chose Maryland because it has a strong reputation for cybersecurity and offers a good mix of hands-on courses and research opportunities. With certifications like Security+, DevSecOps, and Offensive Pentesting, I’m committed to becoming a well-rounded cybersecurity professional, blending offensive and defensive skills.

The location near DC also opens up a lot of career options, and I liked how industry-connected the programme felt.

One of the biggest reasons I love the programme is the amazing faculty. They're not just teaching from textbooks; they’re actually working in the field and solving real-world cybersecurity problems.

Their lessons come from real experience, not just theory, which has completely changed how I look at cybersecurity and its challenges.

Hemanth Kolli,

Master of Engineering in Cybersecurity

Maryland’s proximity to tech hubs and its strong industry connections provide a unique advantage. I’m eager to leverage these opportunities to gain exposure to real-world challenges, contribute to meaningful projects, and build a network of forward-thinking professionals.

Above all, Maryland feels like the perfect place to push boundaries, explore new ideas, and take my technical expertise to new heights. Go Terps!

The MAGE programme pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. Balancing intense coursework with real-world problem-solving taught me how to think critically, adapt quickly, and collaborate effectively.

It wasn’t always easy – some projects were tough and time-consuming – but each challenge helped me grow more confident and capable as a cybersecurity professional. What stood out most was how every class encouraged me to explore, question, and build with purpose.

A campus designed for impact

My long-term goal is to become a subject matter expert in supply chain, which is the backbone of the industry. I found BGSU's Logistics Systems Engineering program is a combination of engineering and management, which helps me to enhance my knowledge and skills. I joined BGSU in January 2022 and got the opportunity to work as a Graduate Assistant on an industrial project under the guidance of Dr. Sarder.
