Choosing a career in health and life sciences means choosing to better the lives of others at local and global levels, as well as your own. To advance in this exciting sector, you should start by joining University of Liverpool’s (UoL) Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. Its 900-strong community of researchers has a research portfolio valued at 300 million pounds. What they do, however, is priceless. You can’t put a price tag on pushing the limits of scientific knowledge and, most importantly, translating discoveries into real-world health benefits.
The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is finding out how socio-cultural factors affect school readiness in children, and their discovery of Tirzepatide’s role in reducing type 2 diabetes risk could transform preventive care. Their insights into atrial fibrillation-related strokes may lead to improved clinical practices, while their analysis of rising infant mortality rates highlights urgent social inequalities that need to be addressed.
With each breakthrough, the faculty grows in prestige and so too does its drive to train a new generation of graduates that can better understand and tackle these challenges. It is ranked within the world’s top 100 globally in four areas by the QS World University Rankings 2024: Anatomy & Physiology, Medicine, Pharmacy & Pharmacology, and Veterinary Science. It’s easy to see why students from near and far join UoL each year — today the university is home to approximately 8,000 international students from 135 countries.

"I recently received the 2023 University of Liverpool Alumni Award for my achievements in managing and leading the implementation of life-saving and life-changing interventions in northeast Nigeria with the World Food Programme (WFP). With the help of my qualifications and experience, WFP Ethiopia requested my support to coordinate the Assurance project in Amhara and Somali regions where I made a positive impact. I currently lead the WFP Emergency Response Safety Net Project in Sudan, attending to the food security and nutrition needs of individuals affected by the ongoing conflict. I believe the quality of education and the recent award I received at Liverpool have shaped me beyond measure and will certainly propel me in future endeavours."
"By continuing to study, I strengthened my clinical knowledge, which may save the lives of patients. The tutorials were my favourite thing about the course because tutors were able to provide advice that was tailored to me and my learning."
"What I enjoyed the most was conducting a genome-wide study on real-life data from the UK Biobank, which I undertook as part of my dissertation. It was great to work with academics in and across departments on this project, learn valuable research skills, and work on developing the research idea into a full publication."
"While working during the pandemic as a healthcare worker, I understood the importance of ethics and when I went through the course details on the university website, it was something that maybe no other university offers. Modules, such as clinical ethics, interested me the most."
