Eager to go into research? The MSc in Nanoscience aims to educate and train future PhD students to go far in this field. It’s designed to prepare you to perform cutting-edge research in this highly interdisciplinary field, excel in critical thinking, and collaborate with your peers to reach bigger goals. You’ll learn how nanoscience borders physics, chemistry, materials science, and biochemistry, offering new ways to solve key scientific challenges in the modern world. And you’ll work on hands-on experiments and projects alongside small, selective research groups, making for interactions that are both intensive and efficient.
The program has been deemed “excellent” by the Dutch Ministry of Education for three years running. Career outcomes share this same description. On average, 95% of graduates continue their PhD either in Groningen or abroad. They then move on to roles such as researchers or academic experts in top universities.

Hear from the student
“During the research projects, you have a lot of freedom. The program gives you the tools for a PhD because you have a lot of contact with lecturers and interdisciplinary research groups. My research revolves around STED microscopy and its use on living cells, combining my knowledge of biology and physics. I’d like to continue my research at the university or enter a company after graduation.”
