To work in healthcare, you need clinical precision, emotional intelligence, and the kind of experience that evokes trust and saves lives. That’s exactly what students get at the University of Chester’s Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society.
Set in the historic city of Chester in Northwest England, the faculty is home to four schools — Chester Medical School, School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Allied and Public Health, and School of Society — with offer programmes designed to you career-ready and world-ready.
Placements in hospitals, community organisations, and research facilities ensure this. As you apply theory to practice, you’ll gain the confidence and expertise to lead with compassion, evidence, and skill, wherever your health career takes you.
“With almost 5,000 international students from more than 150 countries, and a third of our academic staff from overseas, our UOB campus is truly a diverse and global place.”

Shaping graduates who are ready for work and the world
The Chester Future Skills Curriculum is built to get you work-ready and world-ready. It makes learning hands-on so it mirrors what’s actually happening in hospitals, clinics, and care settings. It’s a great way to build your confidence, your expertise, and your skills.
To make sure what you learn lines up with what employers need, Chester works closely with industry partners to shape its programmes. Many courses include placements or language modules, giving you real experience and a chance to grow your professional network.

Even assessments are designed to reflect real professional practice. Instead of just sitting exams, you’ll work on live projects, create digital content, and tackle real challenges with employers.
Learning is just as dynamic on campus. You’ll get to collaborate across disciplines, work in teams, and become a better communicator. And as inclusivity is part of the DNA here, there are Student Voice Representatives and Student Race Advocates to ensure diverse perspectives shape how programmes are delivered and how students are supported.
From University of Chester to careers that make a difference
The university’s Careers Team will support you as you explore career ideas, develop goals, and plan your next steps. Friendly Career Consultants are available for one-to-one conversations that can be booked online, by phone, or in person. Each session offers personalised advice on topics such as CVs, applications, interviews, further study, and entrepreneurship, helping you recognise your strengths and move confidently toward your goals.
To make the most of this support, there’s CareerHub. It connects students to career consultations, job vacancies, and a wide range of digital resources. From Chester Internships to the Venture Programme, CareerHub makes it easier to find opportunities and guidance for up to two years after graduation.
Building on this support, the university will introduce the Getting Hired Toolkit in Autumn 2025. This self-paced resource will help graduates enhance their job readiness through practical topics, including transferable skills, applications, CVs, interviews, and the increasing use of AI in recruitment.

The MPA at STEaPP helped me develop analytical skills in policy-making, project management and science and technology studies. This highly interdisciplinary programme allowed me to explore the nuances of digital technologies from different perspectives and disciplines. It ultimately prepared me to critically analyse the implications of various technologies in different Global South and Global North contexts.
The programme is also distinctly international, enabling me to develop networking skills among peers worldwide that further internationalise my career as a professional interested in public administration in its various forms. Ultimately, this programme strengthened my skills as a policy analyst and allowed me to expand the diversity of my research as a digital rights activist in Paraguay. It also paved the way for my career as a professional researcher, as I am currently enrolled in a PhD programme at UCL STEaPP.
