Welcome to
Cleveland State University, Levin College of Public Affairs

Think about the best teacher you ever had. Someone who opened your eyes to new ideas and made learning feel like an adventure. Now imagine if every child in the world had someone like that. Unfortunately, that world is still a work in progress. According to the Global Report on Teachers, an additional 44 million teachers will be needed in schools worldwide by 2030.
As for the type of teachers needed? Those who understand the power of research, value global perspectives, and are ready to lead change. The School of Education at the University of Birmingham, based in Edgbaston, UK, is a place where such educators are shaped. With a worldwide reputation for teaching and research excellence, it leads the way in transforming educational practice and policy.
“The constant feedback we receive from our international students is the support and care they experience at UoB. We support international students with their language skills and academic skills and help them in their career aspirations.”
Dr. Prithvi Perepa, Global Engagement Lead at the School of Education

The MPA at STEaPP helped me develop analytical skills in policy-making, project management and science and technology studies. This highly interdisciplinary programme allowed me to explore the nuances of digital technologies from different perspectives and disciplines. It ultimately prepared me to critically analyse the implications of various technologies in different Global South and Global North contexts.
The programme is also distinctly international, enabling me to develop networking skills among peers worldwide that further internationalise my career as a professional interested in public administration in its various forms. Ultimately, this programme strengthened my skills as a policy analyst and allowed me to expand the diversity of my research as a digital rights activist in Paraguay. It also paved the way for my career as a professional researcher, as I am currently enrolled in a PhD programme at UCL STEaPP.

Birmingham offered the most useful and practical course structure. It also had a distance learning course, which was essential for me at the time (2011-2014) because my daughter was one when I started the course and I worked full time as a special school teacher.
The combination of study weekends, online learning, and working in person and via email with a locally based tutor made it far more accessible.
The most important factor, however, was the number of lecturers and teachers who were experts by lived experience. It is so important to hear the lived experience of autistic adults, many of whom are researchers themselves. I was taught by the likes of Damien Milton, Wenn Lawson, Ross Blackburn and Dean Beadle all of whom challenged me to reflect upon my preconceptions.
