As Yi Lin settled into UCL's Sociology & Politics of Science (BSc), she began to see what makes the subject distinctive. “In a world where AI can be learned very quickly online, STS offers something different,” she says. “It helps people understand how politics, science, and society interact with each other, and how those relationships shape the world around us.” In her classes, for example, they studied different kinds of disasters and how communities and governments respond to them.
Outside the classroom, Yi Lin got involved in campus life. She joined the Community Resilience Assembly group, where she learned how communities can strengthen their networks and prepare for climate, social, and geopolitical challenges.
STS provides very strong coherent links between the modules and creates a connected learning environment with very diverse perspectives,” she says. “I plan to continue my studies into a master’s degree in society and marketing.”
