Tracey Nelson
PhD in Chemistry
Tracey Nelson chose this PhD programme for its wide range of research labs and the positive energy she felt among students. The environment felt welcoming, and that made all the difference. Faculty in the department actively encourage students to get involved in seminars and events, both within the university and beyond. As such, Nelson has presented at symposiums, joined faculty-led student groups, and explored a broad spectrum of research topics.
Early on, the department offered courses designed to sharpen scientific writing and presentation skills. These turned out to be key in helping her prepare for qualifying exams. Beyond campus, Nelson has visited several national laboratories, gathering high-quality data for her research.
"These opportunities would not have been possible without my advisor or department," Nelson says. "I have utilised the core facilities numerous times to complete my lab work. We are equipped with analysis techniques for materials characterisation as well as instrumentation for sample preparation purposes."
