Preparation for professional architectural practice. Skills in sustainable design, visualization, technology, project management and collaboration. An interdisciplinary environment. These are the main takeaways from Jefferson’s Master of Architecture program.

The NAAB-accredited and STEM-designated professional degree is designed to prepare students for architectural practice. The program provides an interdisciplinary academic experience that positions architecture at the dynamic center of our shared social, technological and physical environment. A commitment to design excellence, social equity and sustainability is evident throughout the curriculum, equipping graduates with the creativity, competence, compassion and conviction to be positive agents of change.”

Multiple starting tracks are available based on a student’s level of preparedness. Students are placed into tracks based on their educational background, experiences and portfolio. Typically, students with a four-year pre-professional architecture degree will receive advanced standing and enter the second year of the program (4+2). In most cases these students will complete the program in two years. Career changers with a bachelor’s degree in any field, will enter the foundational part of the program which includes a two-program summer program plus a full year of basic design, visualization, history and technology classes. A portfolio and personal statement are required for review upon admission and placement in the program.

Students can gain professional experience through the Architectural Experience Program, developed by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), a requirement across most jurisdictions and a key step to licensure. NCARB representatives visit every year to present an overview of AXP and the professional licensure process as well as providing students with valuable information on how to begin the process.

Students with a professional Bachelor of Architecture degree may consider the MS in Architecture program, an advanced post-professional, STEM-designated design research degree featuring custom concentrations. This degree prepares students for specialist and consulting positions in the broad field of the built environment in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. Successful graduates may consider to apply and receive advanced standing in the Architecture and Design Research PhD.
