An immersive learning experience for architecture and design majors

Although Kansas is commonly known for its agriculture, it is also a hub for architecture and design, with many of the world's famous sports and entertainment venues being designed in Kansas City. Take Dyche Hall, for example. The limestone building features intricate carvings of birds, beasts, and reptiles done by the city's own Walter Root and George Siemens in the early 1900s.

Today, it is one of the University of Kansas's signature buildings and is just minutes away from its School of Architecture & Design, where aspiring architects, designers, creatives, and multidisciplinary leaders are shaped. Here, you'll learn in an immersive creative studio culture that prepares you to solve real-world architectural and design problems while enjoying a one-of-a-kind learning experience.

"I see our future as a hub of sports facility knowledge, where we use technology to delve into the intricacies of spatial problems. While sports are discussed across various professions, what sets us apart at KU is our focus on space. We act as a bridge between state-of-the-art technologies like urban data science, algorithm modelling, and advanced analytical techniques, and the spatial aspects of sports facilities at various scales."

Dr. Gustavo Amaral, Assistant Professor of Architecture and Programme Director for Sports & Leisure.

IBM and Columbia University are partnering to make data centres more energy-efficient, as these facilities consume around 2% of U.S. energy supplies according to the Department of Energy. They are modelling AI's energy use, designing low-power chips, reducing software inefficiencies, and optimising system operations to address this issue.

V. Faye McNeill, professor of chemical engineering, is working with partners across the Global South to expand air quality monitoring in India, generate new air pollution data in Africa, and build local capacity in air quality science. The team’s success has led to informed policy decisions and improved air management across various regions.

"Throughout my four years, I had amazing studio courses where we were able to work with industry leaders like Vans, CamelBak, and Newell Brands. The projects and skills I developed through these studios deeply enriched my portfolio and also led to some amazing internships. The first took place at Populous, an architecture firm in Kansas City, and the second at Steelcase, a leader in the furniture design industry."

A campus designed for impact

My long-term goal is to become a subject matter expert in supply chain, which is the backbone of the industry. I found BGSU's Logistics Systems Engineering program is a combination of engineering and management, which helps me to enhance my knowledge and skills. I joined BGSU in January 2022 and got the opportunity to work as a Graduate Assistant on an industrial project under the guidance of Dr. Sarder.
