The Hun School of Princeton is a bright and spirited community, where students can attempt anything, discover balance, and find their heart. Hun encourages students to stretch their minds, broaden their perspectives, and find their voices. Founded as a tutoring school in 1914, mentorship is still a big part of life at the School today. Faculty study and discuss mentorship the same way they discuss and study and teaching methods. Some of Hun’s faculty members are even working with psychology professor and author David Yeager on his newest book about mentoring students.

Great learning happens when classes can capture imagination, bring learning to life, and are infused with joy. Hun School classes are dynamic and vigorous, and are enhanced by a spirit of joyfulness that includes experimentation and humor.
Hun School classes are active and hands-on, because when learning is active, students understand concepts more deeply, retain more information, and develop critical-thinking skills.
Academics
Hun School classes are innovative and adaptive. Teachers survey the landscape and then devise classes and skills that respond to the changes they see. This is evident in the NextTerm mini-semester, a credited, experiential, and interdisciplinary three-week course that all Upper School students participate in. Students select from a menu of twenty travel-based courses that explore topics such as the Olympic Legacy in Barcelona; the Technology and Business of Films in Los Angeles, California; the Beauty, Business, and Biology of Bees; and the Nordic Approach to Happiness.

There are countless opportunities for students to join clubs or teams that align with their passions. Hun students have a steadfast devotion to giving their all, and that spills out of the classroom and onto the field and stage. They approach both new activities and lifelong passions with equal parts zeal and enthusiasm, and work hard to gain new skills and grow their abilities.
The Hun School wins its fair share of athletic competitions, but places the highest value on playing each game with grace, resiliency, and respect for others. Each day is a new opportunity for students to set ambitious goals and make an effort to improve.
Music, art, dance, and dramatic literature are meaningful components of a vibrant education. Every day, Hun’s dedicated faculty help students cultivate outlets for individual and collective expression. Each year, Hun hosts more than twenty-five student-produced performances, and fifteen performance ensembles.
One of the core skills of a Hun education is leadership, and opportunities to develop that skill abound. Leadership programs are integral to the curriculum, and Hun’s faculty help students learn how to connect with and motivate others, while developing their own unique leadership style. Whether on a team, as part of a club, or in a formal leadership cohort, students have access to a supportive peer and faculty network that will prove rewarding for years to come.
ExtraCurriculars
A small boarding program with a big heart.
That’s what students can expect when they choose to board at The Hun School. The Hun School's Boarding Program is a community within a community; one that celebrates the very essence of diversity and belonging and drives a vibrant student life experience across campus. Hun’s residential experience is specifically designed to offer students an introduction to the wider world within a supportive environment. Students live and learn alongside peers from global cultures and diverse backgrounds, deepening their understanding of experience beyond their own.

In 2025, The Hun School will open a new residence hall, featuring several interconnected in-hall houses, each with a distinct community and aesthetic. The small feel and closeness of students and faculty gives students all the comfort and sense of home they need to thrive in a vigorous academic setting.
The Hun School sits in an ideal location, in Princeton, New Jersey, which is about 50 minutes from both New York City and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Downtown Princeton, home to Princeton University, is about 1.5 miles from campus, and students often head into town for dinner, to see a show, or to take advantage of the many educational and cultural events that take place.

Weekend activities or class field trips often involve walking to downtown Princeton or driving to Philadelphia or New York. The Hun School’s strategic location allows students to enjoy the best of both worlds: the peaceful, focused environment of a small town and large metropolitan areas.

“I loved being able to live with my best friends and go on trips with them every weekend. Hun did a phenomenal job making Hun a home away from home and I really appreciate always having a teacher to go to in the dorms for advice whenever I needed it.”
