I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology in Germany, and I knew I wanted to continue in the field of psychology and counselling. When I explored programmes at Tennessee Tech, it quickly stood out as the best fit — not only because of the feeling I had after speaking with the programme chair, but also because it aligned well with my future goal of potentially pursuing a PhD.

One of the main ways the programme and faculty supported my specific career goals was by helping me complete a master's thesis. Although a thesis wasn’t part of the official curriculum, it was important for my future accreditation if I returned to Germany. The faculty were incredibly flexible — they worked with me through an independent study so I could complete the project.

What I also appreciated was the diversity in age and life experiences among students. Taking classes with people at different life stages really broadened my perspective on the topics we discussed. It also showed me the value of humility, that no matter your age or background, we’re all here to learn, grow, and support each other.
