At Shanghai Community International School (SCIS), individuality is embraced. Here’s where nursery through 12th-grade students feel empowered to discover their passions in an International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum World School where diverse pathways are offered to cultivate individual strengths.

Across three state-of-the-art campuses in the districts of Hongqiao and Pudong, students are learning hands-on in the classrooms, training in 25-metre pools, acting their hearts out on stage in a 10,000-square-foot theatre, and more—all while developing skills that extend far beyond the classroom. Classes are small but the community is limitless, with over 65 countries and more than 45 languages and dialects represented. This diversity creates a rich, inclusive environment where students develop a true appreciation for different cultures and perspectives.

The students are gaining experience outside the curriculum too. SCIS’s Grades two to five students are penning articles and designing comics for the newly launched Lower School Flame newspaper. Two teams of upper school students are holding the top two spots in the High School Math Olympiad, having beaten 20 other teams in a competition hosted by the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) . They’ve travelled across various cities in China for an immersive cultural experience, like the Upper School’s trip to inner Mongolia where they got to ride on camel’s backs.

SCIS students can customise their pathway from as early as nursery up until their senior year before university. The Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP), and Diploma (DP) programmes are designed to encourage discoveries. This being an IB World School, students get to find their hidden talents and interests early, thanks to the wide range of opportunities offered in entrepreneurship, technology, the fine arts and more. It’s a place where mistakes are overcome, weaknesses are conquered, strengths are capitalised, and communities are bonded.

A SCIS education isn’t one where students remain idle. The IB curriculum is designed to be concept-driven, project-based, and relevant to the real world. It gets students to exercise their critical thinking skills to solve problems and use their hands to contribute to the community as change-making citizens.
