MSc Information Security
The MSc Information Security was founded in 1990 as the first of its kind in the world. It continues to be a world leader, taught by specialists in the field with backgrounds in computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, and the social sciences. This programme covers advanced knowledge and understanding of the latest breakthroughs and techniques in information and cyber security – and incorporates technical, management, legal, and social aspects, making it ideal for advancing careers or further study.
The course is underpinned by two core modules: Security Management and Research Methods, developing the knowledge and skills to deploy effective security management methods and strategies that give the best outcome; and Cryptography and Security Mechanisms, exploring core cryptographic mechanisms within a full security architecture and identifying situations in which they are most usefully employed and addressing any issues that could arise. These are complemented by optional modules in subjects like security testing, cybercrime, system security, network security, device security, and usable security, which you’ll choose to match your interests and develop your own research project. Throughout the course, you’ll also gain valuable soft skills such as data handling, analysis, research, communication, problem-solving, time management, adaptability, and self-motivation. These skills ensure you are well-prepared for the future, as proven by the programme's strong track record of getting graduates into high-level careers.
