When a school combines rigorous academics with diverse co-curricular activities and excellent pastoral care, it supports the transformation of girls into successful young women. That’s what Roedean School has been offering since its founding in 1885.
Perched on the picturesque cliffs of Sussex, the school ensures each student gets “a thorough physical, intellectual and moral” education with “as much liberty as is consistent with safety”. Free from gender stereotypes, this is a campus that empowers its students to step up to leadership roles, excel in STEM subjects, and pursue their passions without limitations.

"As parents of two daughters with completely different personalities and needs, we are so grateful that Roedean can provide a truly personalised experience for each of them. The school offers a remarkable breadth of opportunities, ensuring that both girls can pursue their individual passions while being supported in their unique learning journeys. Our daughters absolutely love Roedean – they feel not only challenged and inspired, but also deeply supported.”

Record-breaking grades
In 2024, the GCSE cohort achieved the school’s best results ever —79.1% of all GCSEs were awarded grades Nine to Seven, equivalent to A* to A –. The A Level cohort also achieved admirable results, with 24.4% of all grades at A* and 57.2% at A*-A. Happy graduates are heading off to top universities worldwide, setting them on pathways towards fulfilling careers.
While getting great grades is important, the school is just as committed to equipping its students to think deeply, critically, and spontaneously, and to challenge and question what is learned. Wide-ranging academic opportunities outside of classrooms make this possible. They enhance coursework and build a breadth and depth of understanding.
“Roedean has equipped me with the skills to look forward and think further about what I want to do in life,” says Amelia Morrison, a Class of 2024 graduate now working in the school’s Admissions and Marketing department.
“My subject teachers are so attentive and patient and help cultivate a healthy and encouraging academic environment for my peers and me to grow, ” says Year 13 student Olivia Soars. “I have been fortunate to enjoy many interesting and enlightening academic experiences at Roedean, but my favourite moment is being able to take part in the academic symposium last year. I really enjoyed being able to showcase my interest in history and politics in a public manner.”

The Roedean Diploma
In September 2024, the school introduced the Roedean Diploma in September 2024.
This innovative programme enables students to document their participation in academic enrichment, leadership roles in sports, arts, community service, and other personal development projects, culminating in one of three diplomas: Junior, Senior, or Sixth Form.
Those who pursue the Roedean Diploma can be awarded a Distinction for their prowess. It’s a gateway to recognising exceptional dedication, skill growth, and contributions across activities, building confidence and preparing girls to excel in multifaceted areas of life. This approach is a testament to the school’s commitment to a “girls first”’ education.
“I have gained confidence and interpersonal skills at Roedean that will help me in whatever career path I choose. From work experience in parliament to working in the music and drama department, Roedean has undoubtedly put me in a stronger position to tackle my future careers.”
“The Roedean Diploma has encouraged me to push beyond my usual interests and try new challenges. It inspired me to sign up for a Debating Competition, start preparing an academic lecture, and even enter a Spanish poetry competition, Poésíæ, which I was delighted to win.”

Although the school offers full, weekly, and flexi-boarding options, many Roedean students enrol as full boarders, enjoying what the school offers as a home away from home. Your daughter will join Roedean in one of six beautifully decorated boarding houses and part of a cosmopolitan community with over 40 nationalities represented. There’s no better way to engage with various cultures and backgrounds than through shared experiences such as cultural food days or weekend activities; boarders enjoy shopping, crafting, go-karting, baking, and trips to London in their spare time too.
But what truly sets Roedean’s boarding experience apart is the physical, emotional and spiritual support provided. The school’s pastoral care includes mental health initiatives, mindfulness rooms, and trained staff available around the clock to ensure each student feels safe and supported. The outcome is an environment where all students feel valued, respected, and celebrated.
These factors led to Roedean receiving both the Muddy Stiletto Boarding School of the Year and the Best Boarding School of the Year from the Independent Schools Parent Award Finalist in 2024.
“The boarding community is incredibly tight-knit and diverse,” says Zaha Mazaheri, a Year 12 full boarder from Oman. “We spend most of our time with each other, and it has allowed me to form some of the closest and healthiest relationships I've ever had with my friends.”
