Dr. Petra Chang

Dr. Chang, from Brazil, had always thought about pursuing a higher degree in animal science. This vision became a reality when she learned of the opportunities available at NC State. “I was fortunate to gain exposure to the commercial side of pig production. My advisors had great industry connections, and I was able to run my research in many commercial facilities owned by companies outside the university," she says.

This hands-on experience was invaluable. “It helped me prepare for a job in the industry without sacrificing my learning of the science throughout the coursework of both my MSc and PhD programmes,” she shares. Chang is now a Swine Technical Consultant for Elanco, using what she learned at NC State every day.

"I am responsible for conducting field research, meeting with customers, presenting technical information on our products, and more," Dr. Chang explains.
