Dr. Emmanuel Lozada-Soto

PhD in Animal Science

Lozada-Soto’s academic journey began at the University of Puerto Rico and took him all the way to NC State University, where he monitored udder infections in dairy cattle and studied the genetic diversity of North American cattle breeds.

Several experiences during his graduate studies stand out. "The advanced geneticist and breeder courses gave me the tools to succeed. Statistics classes improved how I use data in my research, while collaborations with researchers outside NC State taught me new research methods," he says.

Lozada-Soto currently works as an Animal Scientist at the Agricultural Research Service’s (USDA-ARS) National Animal Germplasm Programme (NAGP). "I analyse the genetic diversity of germplasm from agriculturally significant species, which is similar to my doctoral research.

"In a lot of ways, I believe the university has allowed me to start my role at USDA-ARS with a leg up," he says.
