Research that redefines animal science

Dr. Kim, originally from South Korea, is one of the world’s top 100 researchers in animal and veterinary science. His work centres on intestinal health and how dietary strategies influence gut function and the growth of young pigs.
He believes mastering one area of animal science requires a multidisciplinary approach. That’s where NC State University excels. “Animal research here spans multiple departments, including Animal Science, Poultry Science, Biology, and the College of Veterinary Medicine. This environment allows us to cross boundaries and make real progress,” he says.
Beyond the campus, North Carolina offers a strong support system for animal agriculture and biosciences. "The state is home to the Research Triangle Park and has long supported agricultural innovation. I have easy access to feeds, animals, as well as cutting-edge biotechnologies," Dr. Kim shares.
