This programme offers a wide-ranging survey of literatures in English, covering methodologies, periods, and genres such as the 19th-Century Social Realist Novel, Postcolonial Theory, Trauma Studies, and Literature of the Anthropocene. Elective courses can be taken from the department’s other programmes, including Performing Shakespeare in Asia and Theatre and the Novel.

“The research facilities in Singapore were top-notch,” adds fellow literature PhD candidate Hu Ying, “which gave me the opportunities and resources to explore all kinds of possibilities with my research. The intellectual rigor and cultural diversity truly enriched my graduate experience.”
