Putri Aleeya decided to join the Bachelor of Event Management programme at MSU in hopes of one day following in the footsteps of her father, a prominent figure in Malaysia’s events industry. “At first, it was because of him, but as I got more involved with the activities on campus, I started to fall in love with the programme," she says.
To Aleeya, two courses stand out for how they engaged her intellectually, creatively, socially, and physically. For the Culture and Heritage course, she and her team were tasked with planning a trip for MSU’s signature Global Leadership Programme. In the Event Project course, they mastered the ins and outs of managing an event. Having completed smaller courses during her diploma studies, she appreciates how her current courses integrate and expand upon those basic skills.
As part of her MSU degree, Aleeya took part in the Global Mobility Programme, spending five months at Abdullah Gül University in Turkey.
"It taught me to be independent, and I made friends with people from all over the world. The experience was more about exposure, but I took on courses in business ethics and strategic management," she recalls.
As a member of the Student Representative Council and the faculty club, Aleeya has helped organise various events, including a staycation bonding programme for lecturers, advisors and students, an online Merdeka event during the COVID-19 pandemic, and "The Art of Smartphone Photography" workshop. She’s also served as vice programme manager for a collaboration with Tourism Selangor to expose international students to Malaysian culture and contributed to "My Neighbours," a charity event aimed at helping less fortunate families by teaching them skills like sewing to boost their earning potential.
