Aiman Bin Nor Azlan’s journey to pursuing a Bachelor in Cardiovascular Technology (BCT) was shaped by both his initial ambitions and pragmatic considerations. He felt Malaysia had too many doctors and too few specialists, so after earning a Diploma in Medical Sciences at MSU, he explored the university’s various medical-related programmes before choosing the BCT — influenced by his academic mentor and promising job prospects.
His favourite class, Echocardiography 02, stands out for its integrative approach. "Everything else started to 'click' or make sense," he says, highlighting the subject's role in consolidating his foundational knowledge. Other notable subjects include Pacemakers & EP Studies and Personal & Professional Development, each contributing uniquely to his skill set.
During BCT Industrial Day, Azlan and his peers practised advanced procedures like transthoracic echocardiography and intravascular ultrasound. "This event was an insightful experience as we were able to put our theoretical knowledge to the test," shares the student, who aims to specialise in pacemaker technology.
Meanwhile, leadership roles, including his presidency in ProTech Club and involvement in SDG initiatives, have helped hone his soft skills. He hopes to soon leverage these competencies in the high-intensity environment of hospitals, where quick thinking and adaptability are crucial.
Thankfully, he can get a headstart through MSU’s clinical internships at prestigious institutions like the Institute Jantung Negara (Malaysia's premier heart attack centre) and Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur.
“These placements double as a means of promoting students to potential employers,” he says. And with MSU’s strong connections to cardiac centres in the Middle East, Azlan’s future in cardiovascular technology looks promising.
