MSU’s focus on sustainability has deeply influenced Maryam Mohamed Kamaleldin's view on health science management. “I have now come to understand that sustainable practices are essential for creating resilient health systems that can adapt to and mitigate environmental challenges,” says the student from Sudan.
Specifically, she’s realised the role she could play in promoting eco-friendly healthcare practices, reducing the environmental footprint of health facilities, and ensuring equitable access to healthcare resources. Kamaleldin credits these realisations partially to the Environmental Club, which promotes sustainability throughout campus by regularly organising workshops on waste reduction, energy-efficient practices in healthcare, and sustainable sourcing for medical supplies. “All of these topics align closely with my studies,” she says.
A lot of what she’s learned has helped her excel in experiential learning opportunities and community outreach programmes that promote health education and preventive care. This exposure has spurred her to pursue a Master’s in Public Health, drive change in the healthcare sector, and ultimately contribute to a more sustainable, equitable future.
