Anupam Bose

Anupam Bose's passion for plants and ecosystems inspired him to pursue an MLA. His decision proved fruitful. As an international student, he found inspiration in the native plants of the Midwest, particularly through the course LA 578B. Lessons beyond the classroom were equally impactful. Through the Urban Design studio with Professor Julia Badenhope, field trips to New York exposed him to large-scale design interventions like SCAPE's "Living Breakwaters" project in Staten Island, a model for climate-adaptive green infrastructure. These experiences informed his studio project on sustainable coastal resilience for the Budva Bay promenade in Montenegro.

Closer to campus, Bose has worked with small Iowa communities through Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning programme.

None of this would have been possible without ISU’s unwavering support. Bose received the US$3,505 Barbara King Scholarship for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to study shared landscapes in California's cohousing communities. Shortly after, he interned with EDSA, a top landscape architecture firm.

Now a full-time employee at Stantec, Bose credits ISU for shaping him into the skilled, empathetic landscape architect he is today. “The vibrant campus, dedicated faculty, and excellent facilities at ISU undoubtedly offer abundant resources for those who want to make a difference,” says the graduate.

“It helped me realise that social equity is the driving force behind my design thinking,” he says.
