Kindergarten is a child’s first step into education, and at the International French School (Singapore)’s new IFS Kindergarten, this experience is carefully designed to inspire, support, and empower.
“The vision is to create a vibrant and nurturing environment where every child can grow, explore, and develop with confidence. Through an innovative approach that blends play, collaboration, and structured learning, we enable each child to progress at their own rhythm while embracing a global perspective.”
Mr. Florian Olive, Director-Maternelle Kindergarten
A lifetime of learning starts at IFS Kindergarten
Start strong at IFS Kindergarten
Inspired by the French école maternelle, the kindergarten welcomes children from age three, helping them grow emotionally, socially, and intellectually during life’s most formative years. And although its roots are proudly French, the Kindergarten's teaching is inspired by the best of global early childhood education.
“Montessori and Reggio Emilia are far from the only ones. We also draw on active learning methods inspired by Célestin Freinet, Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, and, more recently, the growing field of neuroscience, particularly in the area of executive functioning. Our only compass? The success and well-being of the children entrusted to us.”
says Mr. Olive

Bonjour. Hello. 你好.
In the new kindergarten, children get to explore the world of languages, diving into French, English, and Mandarin. As they pick up new words and phrases, they grow more curious about how language works and start to see the world’s cultural diversity in a whole new light.

The Kindergarten prioritises sensorial, experiential learning as a means for children to understand abstract concepts. Educators help children learn how to think, not just what to think.
Petite section
11 hours of French, 8 hours of English, and 2 hours of Mandarin each week

More than a classroom
At IFS Kindergarten, little learners have spaces with big ambitions. Its innovative villa concept design transforms the traditional classroom layout into a nurturing space that guides every child’s discovery. Here, four bright, open classrooms come together around the Agora, a central space designed for collaboration, creativity, and connection.
Supports diverse teaching methods, including group work, cross-class activities, and independent study.
Accommodates various learning styles while promoting active participation, creativity, and critical thinking.
Nurtures emotional well-being, social belonging, and autonomy.
Helps educators make better use of learning materials and keep track of how students interact, so they can give the right support to each child.
Creates an inclusive, adaptable, and future-focused learning ecosystem.

Built with care for children and the planet
IFS Kindergarten was built with the future in mind. Complementing the villa concept are eco-friendly features that reflect the school’s care for the planet.
"By prioritising sustainability, we are not only teaching children about the importance of protecting the planet but also providing them with a learning space that reflects our values of innovation, care for the environment, and responsibility for future generations."
Mr. Olive
Where children lead and learning follows
IFS Kindergarten puts children first — always. Here, every child is encouraged to follow their curiosity, express their creativity, and make their own choices through activities like art, music, stories, and play.
Your child will grow to be:
By honouring each child’s unique developmental pace, the school creates a safe and nurturing space where children feel valued and understood. As a result, they are more inclined to take risks, build confidence, and grow both academically and personally.
Emotionally secure
Committed to lifelong learning
By cultivating curiosity and a love for learning from the very beginning, IFS Kindergarten lays the groundwork for lifelong discovery. Children are empowered to explore beyond the classroom, building habits of enquiry and imagination that will guide them throughout their academic journey and into a bright, adaptable future.
Through collaborative play and group activities, children learn to communicate, work as a team, and develop empathy and mutual respect. These everyday moments help them navigate relationships, understand different perspectives, and learn how to resolve conflicts with care.
Socially developed
"We focus on basic skills like language development and problem-solving, as well as introduce activities that help children learn phonics, early reading, math, and critical thinking, all within a play-based framework that keeps learning enjoyable and engaging. Our goal is to help your child smoothly transition from Kindergarten to Primary education."

Hear from the students
“IFS's emphasis on academic support, excellence, and pastoral care has positively impacted my educational journey as it has motivated me to push my limits when it comes to academics, always reaching for better. Looking back, I feel adequately prepared to confront challenges in university and beyond. IFS has helped me build my work ethic through the various subjects and the relentless effort I've had to put in. It has also underlined the importance of rest whenever necessary through the supportive network of teachers and counsellors.”
Daria Gutlin, Grade 12
“IFS offered a plethora of extracurricular opportunities that shaped my personal growth. I represented the school in international and national sports competitions, including cross-country championships in Paris and Reims, as well as the Jeux Internationaux de la Jeunesse in Lebanon. I also contributed as a web reporter, covering events like SIMUN and the school's 50th anniversary, and actively participated in clubs like Maths en Jeans and student governance bodies such as CVL. These activities not only enriched my experience but also bolstered my university applications.”
Louis Domart, IFS alumni
