Annabel Azziz

Annabel Azziz is a second year MPH student from the US, specialising in Biostatistics.

Why did you choose to study at Mount Sinai?

I chose Mount Sinai’s MPH for multiple reasons. It is the cheapest available in New York City after CUNY/SUNY, but The Mount Sinai Hospital has a stronger reputation for academic research. Additionally, it allowed me to enter without having fully decided my concentration, whereas other schools required a decision on concentration to be made during the application process. These factors contributed to my decision to turn down acceptances to programmes at NYU, Columbia, and CUNY in favour of Mount Sinai.

How has the MPH contributed to your professional growth?

The instruction from my biostatistics and epidemiology coursework has been invaluable for me in my current job, in which I perform epidemiological data analysis. The MPH has also exposed me to global health work that I had previously not considered prior to joining the programme.

How can students make the most of their time here?

My advice to future students is that graduate school is largely what you make of it. Take the initiative to reach out to professors and TAs for help and advice.
