Chi Nyugen

Hailing from Vietnam, Chi Nguyen graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business and spent a couple of years working in business development and project management.  She encountered lots of statistics and numbers to analyze and support tasks, and that experience would influence the subject of her second bachelor’s pursuit — mathematics.

GWC floated into Nguyen’s radar at the word of her sister, who attended the college and had a great experience. Pursuing her second bachelor’s came with challenges as fresh as the first time, but friendly and supportive staff members helped her through the process.

“Since I’m an international student, I’m not familiar with the educational system, regulation, registration, immigration, and all other related fields,” she says. “They not only helped me with the current status and enrollment at that time but also explained in detail my concerns.”

Nguyen majored in the Applied Math - Statistics program. The courses led by qualified faculty laid the foundation for her to explore and prepare for her dream career path in data analytics. Nguyen enjoyed the learning atmosphere in the new Math and Science Building, which features multi-functional facilities and her favorite — self-study rooms, which are quiet and cozy.

Her experiences, however, aren’t confined to the classroom. Nguyen loved indulging in food events on campus and even worked as a student assistant at the International Student Programs Office. “I’m quite introverted, but having extracurriculars is great. More experience, more relaxed moments, and a chance to understand the culture better,” she says.

The holistic education at GWC allowed Nguyen to transfer to a university, and reach her goal of becoming a data analyst. Today, she’s in her third year at California State University, Long Beach.
