Master of Occupational Health and Safety

The world needs more people capable of transforming workplaces into ones which have effectively managed the risk of incidents and injuries, and are proactive, convivial, equitable and sustainable. ECU’s Master of Occupational Health and Safety is filling the gap by cultivating experts who can not only develop OHS systems tailored to the unique needs of organisations but also conduct incisive research on workplace OHS issues.

One of the programme's standout features is its emphasis on applied learning. Through a workplace-based research project, students get to dive deep into real-world scenarios. There’s plenty to learn in the MARS (Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety) Centre, too — a new ECU education and research centre to create mentally healthy and safe workplaces based on  a culture that is safe for and respectful to all workers. The Centre aims to lead the education of leaders to create respectful, inclusive and diverse teams in this sector.

“In 2024, The MARS Centre will launch a new graduate certificate and undergraduate minor to educate the next generation of leaders in establishing and maintaining an inclusive, diverse, respectful and safe workplace,” shares Dr. Marcus Cattani, Deputy Director of the MARS Centre. Currently, ECU offers a Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety as well, which is better suited for those keen on advancing their knowledge and skills in as little as half a year (full-time). A part-time option is available.
