Public health experts have never been in greater demand in the US. As life expectancy increases and chronic diseases continue to disproportionately impact certain segments of the population the City University of New York Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy (CUNY SPH) is stepping up to meet these challenges head-on. Here, CUNY SPH students gain the knowledge, skills, and tools to improve health outcomes, advocate for equity, and tackle global public health challenges.

“The school helped me to grow in a lot of ways, particularly in championing social justice and health equity. I feel better prepared to contribute to sexual reproductive health, both professionally and in my community, empowering others through collective care. I'll always remember my time at SPH as a turning point for me.

I can interact with classmates from the US and internationally, learning about global public health perspectives. As I approach graduation, I’m excited to start a new role as a communication specialist, applying my skills in environmental health, public health, and social marketing.”

“I’m a Subregional Safety Manager at Amazon, overseeing safety specialists at delivery stations. Earning my master’s degree helped me stand out and secure this role, especially as the field evolved dramatically post-COVID. While attending CUNY SPH, I balanced my full-time work with evening classes and gained valuable fieldwork experience. I believe the diverse opportunities and strong community I found there, including lasting relationships with mentors and peers, played a major role in my success.”

“After moving to New York and teaching for eight years, I decided to shift careers and pursue an MPH at CUNY SPH. The programme's flexibility allowed me to balance my job with evening classes, making the transition easier. CUNY SPH’s practical approach to public health helped me secure an applied epidemiology fellowship at the NYC Department of Health. Now, working in the Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Health Education unit, I find it incredibly rewarding to contribute to improving public health.”
