Vehicles and machinery need custom parts to operate effectively. This programme develops professionals that are capable of producing these components. Throughout their programme, students work alongside an industry-trained faculty in a 8,000 square foot lab.
They work on both manual machines as well as automated Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining equipment. They also learn to operate precision tools; read and interpret blueprints; understand technical mathematics, and gain exposure to workshop theory and practice.
Upon completion, they could take on jobs as machinists; tool or mould and die makers; CNC machinists or programmers; or jobber shop machinists in various sectors such as automotive, mining, forestry, and aviation. To prepare, students take on a two-week work placement.
