Before joining Bucknell University, Deborah Gonkpah was already making an impact in Liberia. As a high school student, she founded WeCanLiberia, a nonprofit focused on sustainable development through sanitation, education, and entrepreneurship. Her organisation built two public latrines serving 500 people in Bong County.
Drawn to Bucknell’s partnership with Davis Projects for Peace, Gonkpah proposed an ambitious plan to construct three additional latrines and was awarded a US$10,000 grant.
