A PhD graduate from the University of Southern California (USC), an IB student preparing for the Thailand International Model United Nations, and an Olympian swimmer — each with their own journey, yet all connected by a shared foundation: the British International School, Phuket (BISP). Founded in 1996, this English-medium, co-educational day and boarding school has long been a place where young minds flourish. Today, with 1,140 students from over 56 nationalities, BISP continues to provide a supportive and enriching environment where students grow into confident, capable individuals ready to make a difference in the world.

My long-term goal is to become a subject matter expert in supply chain, which is the backbone of the industry. I found BGSU's Logistics Systems Engineering program is a combination of engineering and management, which helps me to enhance my knowledge and skills. I joined BGSU in January 2022 and got the opportunity to work as a Graduate Assistant on an industrial project under the guidance of Dr. Sarder.

Excellence knows no limits — neither should opportunity

BISP has one goal: to deliver an exceptional education that focuses on wellbeing and passion to an international community, on a green, well-equipped campus. Ensuring that financial barriers never limit young learners, the school offers various scholarship options, including the Dr. Arthit World Scholarship, which is awarded to top-performing students entering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at BISP.

“What makes this scholarship unique is the combination of academic excellence, a strong boarding community, and our holistic education approach. At British International School, Phuket, we strive to enable the best to access the best.”

Academic excellence from start to end

From their first milestones in primary education to their final years of secondary school, students at BISP embark on a journey of discovery and growth. Learning begins with the National Curriculum of England (KS1 to 3), followed by the IGCSE programme in Years 10 and 11. In Years 12 and 13, students study BTEC or the IBDP, either selecting individual courses tailored to their interests or pursuing a full diploma. The latter is an effective pathway, as evidenced by the Class of 2024’s achievements:

Build character through play

BISP firmly believes sports and extracurricular activities are essential to student wellbeing and a balanced lifestyle. That’s why the school nurtures a community where students willingly participate in various activities, from aerial arts and tennis to swimming, golf, football and a host of other activities.

When Krish joined BISP in 2021, travel restrictions kept him off campus, making him the only online student in his year. But that didn’t stop him from embracing the best of BISP.

"I've built a startup with 2,500 users, been featured in news articles, and now manage a team of 14. My next goal is to acquire investment for my startup. We're currently in touch with multiple venture capitalists and angel investors, and I am hopeful."

After meeting Uganda’s qualifying standards for swimming, Ambala (Class of 2020) made history by becoming the school's first graduate to compete at the Olympic Games.

"BISP provided me with the opportunity to train at a high level while maintaining a strong academic foundation, something I deeply valued. Beyond academics, the IB programme taught me life skills like respect, time management, responsibility, and a good work ethic.”

Phoebe from Myanmar, a Class of 2024 graduate and Dr. Arthit Scholar, is now in Singapore pursuing a degree at Nanyang Technological University.

"The boarding house had such a lovely atmosphere; we would always sing, dance, or bake together. The school organised many fun events too, such as Loy Krathong (a local celebration to seek forgiveness from the Goddess of Water) and Spirit Week (where each school day had a unique theme like “Childhood Dream Job Day” and “Album Cover Day”). And thankfully, there are always people who are ready to help. For example, the teachers would give you feedback on your work to help you improve. I think that was the most helpful in overcoming the huge International Baccalaureate (IB) workload."

After graduating from BISP, Hong pursued a BA in Jurisprudence at Oxford University.

"Unlike in traditional school settings where teachers are constantly looking over your academic progress, there is absolutely no such pressure here. Students are expected to take charge of their own learning, and in that sense, I really appreciate the independence that studying the IBDP at BISP allowed me to foster in being able to set my own goals and work towards them without external pressures to do so."
