Participation in dramatic arts enhances a well-rounded liberal arts education by allowing students to delve into the human experience through character portrayal and collaborative storytelling. The pressure of public performance fosters discipline and ensemble building, which are crucial skills in today's screen-mediated world. This immersive experience cultivates self-understanding, confidence, awareness, and expression, enabling students to engage with others with empathy, creativity, and courage.
The drama program at Boston Trinity Academy presented Shakespeare’s Hamlet this year, marking the school's most ambitious theater endeavor to date. Engaging 86 students, representing half of the upper school student body, the production tackled one of Shakespeare's longest plays. Despite the challenge of captivating a broad audience, particularly with many first-time actors in lead roles, the students triumphed. Their imaginative mastery and interpretation of characters, coupled with stunning ensemble work, impressed both professionals and drama teachers from other programs. Overall, the production surpassed the quality of typical high school programs.
