For Mya Tatam, Bangkok Patana School has always been more than just a place to learn; it’s her second home. Now in Year 13, she’s been part of the school since nursery, growing up in Thailand with an Irish-Italian mother and an English father. As a three-season softball student-athlete, Mya embodies the school’s values, excelling both in the classroom and on the field.
Established as Thailand’s original British international school and one of the most respected schools in Southeast Asia today, Bangkok Patana has built a reputation for delivering outstanding education to students aged 2 to 18. Sports play a huge role in this, teaching students teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills that will serve them well in school, life, and wherever the future takes them.

TENNIS

No student success story is complete without a mentor. At Bangkok Patana, specialist Physical Education teachers are available to help students from Nursery to Year 13 reach their full potential in all aspects of life.
“Softball tournaments often run from Friday to Sunday, meaning I have to miss school on Fridays and have limited time over the weekend to complete homework or study. Now that I’m in the IB programme, this is making me miss valuable learning time. Luckily, my teachers are very understanding. They provide me with the classwork I missed and offer extensions when needed,” says Mya.
Winning on the field and in the classroom
Hear from Mya
“I think my favourite part of Patana is the community — the friends I’ve made within and outside of sports, as well as the relationships I’ve built with my teachers and coaches. I always feel surrounded by a support network that not only helps me but also challenges me to grow.”
Support like no other
“Sports have taught me resilience, hard work, effective communication, dedication, leadership, and time management skills. I am more confident speaking in the classroom, comfortable engaging with new people in a learning environment, and capable of leading while ensuring everyone works together and shares ideas. Sports are truly valuable for much more than just physical health.”
Love for sports
“Softball games are sometimes slow. Sometimes your team makes mistake after mistake. These moments can be frustrating for many people. However, over the years, I have learned that this is simply part of the game and that it’s nobody’s fault. This mindset has helped me in life by reminding me that everyone is always trying their best, and blaming others doesn’t help anyone.”
Patience
“Being a part of a diverse community, I’m more open to try new sports (even if they aren’t popular where I’m from) and I’m open to different training methods, foods, advice, play styles, and more. I don’t get discouraged when something is new or different to me.”
Open mindset
“Academically, I have developed a more global perspective, shaped by the different perspectives of those around me. I respect different cultures and traditions, even if I don’t fully understand them, and I enjoy learning about them. Often, I can make connections between what I’m learning and people I know, which I think is interesting.”
